World travel
During the course of our 21 years associated with the Navy, we had the opportunity to travel to many places.
Photos
- Sardegna and La Maddalena
The island we lived on, and northern Sardegna (Sardinia).
This was our slice of "la vita bella", or "the beautiful life". If I could have done 20 years in the navy standing on my head in La Maddalena, I would have done it. When I win the lottery, we will have a home here. - Mainland
Italy
Tuscany, Rome, Napoli, Florence, Venice, Northern italy, and a touch of Sicily.
In 2001, we rented a Mercedes Van and traveled through mainland Italy for 30 days. Most of these photos come from that time. - Guam
Our little island in the middle of nowhere.
It's easy to hate Guam with it's 90 degrees temperatures and 100% humidity, but there's something to be said about island life, and the fact I never had to wear long sleeved clothes the entire time I lived there. Would I move back? no. Do I miss it? yes. - The United States
Washington, Idaho, Virginia, others
Photos from many of the beautiful places in our Homeland. - Germany
Bayern and Munich.
During our 30 day trip through mainland Italy, we also spent two weeks in Garmisch, Germany, at the AFRC Hotel there. - Corsica
The city of Bonofacio
Bonofacio is just north of La Maddalena, and is on the south tip of the French island of Corsica. Very cool old fortified town. - Greece
Crete and Corfu
Two liberty ports for Dan, while stationed onboard the Submarine Tender USS Emory S. Land. - Croatia
Rijeka
Another Liberty Port for Dan. - Turkey
Marmaris
Yet another awesome liberty port - Israel
Haifa, Masada, Jerusalem
Another liberty port stop. On this one, I got to do a 3 day trip around the country, with a day in Jerusalem - Hungary
Budapest
About the last place I ever envisioned myself going was to a former "soviet-bloc" country, but here I am. The ship pulled into Slovenia, and I took the time to take a 4 day tour of Budapest. - Hawaii
Oahu, particularly Pearl Harbor
We've been to Oahu many, many times. We have lots of friends there still, and still have a great time every time we visit. - Australia
Freemantle
In 2002, Dan "rode" the USS Houston on a 2 week engineering assist, which just happened to be coincidentally scheduled with the ship doing a port visit in Freemantle, Australia. Uncanny, eh?
